Since 2009, the NFL has collaborated with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month through the A Crucial Catch campaign. The initiative reminds women 40 and older about the importance of having an annual mammogram.

The NFL has helped raise more than $8 million for ACS, largely through the sale of Breast Cancer Awareness pink merchandise. The NFL does not profit from the sale or auction of pink merchandise.

Money raised helps support the American Cancer Society’s Community Health Advocates implementing National Grants for Empowerment and Equity (CHANGE) program, which provides outreach and breast cancer screenings. Grant recipients have provided nearly 64,000 breast cancer screenings at no or low cost and have educated nearly 150,000 women about the importance of getting screened.

In October, ACS and the NFL will team up and hold a nationwide breast-cancer event called A Crucial Catch Day in every league market. Events include special pregame ceremonies, team community outreach events and pink items on field and in-stadium. NFL support of A Crucial Catch includes:

  • Pink ribbon shield stencils on both of the 25-yard lines
  • Special footballs with pink ribbon logos for each game
  • Footballs and other pink game-worn items, such as gloves and cleats will be available for bid on NFL Auction. All proceeds will benefit ACS.
