We are partnering with experts and officials every step of the way to provide the safest possible conditions. Together with infections disease experts, the CDC, local, state and federal public health officials, and medical experts from other sports leagues, the NFL and NFLPA have instituted a comprehensive set of protocols (outlined here).
“Everything that we’re doing, we’re committed to limiting the risk for all those involved in the game. As we continue to work with experts and government officials, you’ll see the guidelines are based on mitigating exposure wherever possible.” – Dawn Aponte, NFL Chief Football Administrative Officer
Players, staff and family members received educational material on the protocols, which covered club facilities, testing and screening, contact tracing, transportation and travel, and gameday precautions.
Each club must hold at least one live, virtual education session for players and team staff and another for family members. During these sessions, participants will have the opportunity ask questions of the team’s medical staff or Infection Control Officer. To learn more, visit the Player Health & Safety site.
Clubs were required to submit an Infectious Disease Emergency Response (IDER) Plan, outlining their plans for mitigating the risk of COVID-19. All 32 plans were reviewed and approved by the league, the NFLPA and infectious disease experts.
"I am very proud of the innovation and attention to detail that our club medical staffs have shown as they have created these plans, which were reviewed and approved by the league, the NFLPA and our infectious disease experts.” — NFL Chief Medical Officer Dr. Allen Sills
The NFL, NFLPA, clubs and players have a shared responsibility to adhere to expert recommendations. The protocols will continually adapt to reflect the latest science around COVID-19.
